The house is located in the hillside area of Sherman Oaks. The owners are the young family with small kids and a friendly dog. The husband and wife wanted two different styles – modern and traditional, so the house managed to get the best from both worlds.
The bright entry area with the double volume invites into the living room with the window at the end – so that one can see the outside views while standing in the foyer which feels airy and light. The property is not the easiest in terms of the landscape – it is a hillside with the several steep slopes around, so there was not too much space for a big addition. It was decided to add a basement with one front looking at the views and getting all the light needed.
Even though there is not too much flat portions of the lot, there is still enough space for indoor-outdoor living – the big glass doors open up into the yard, allowing the light into the house and maximizing the views.
